I want to thank you all for all your well wishes for Courtney.  Friday's lecture at the AAFS was awesome!  There was approximately 400 people in attendace. Courtney's speech was amazing and afterwards when the lecture hall went to break, everyone was coming up congratulating her, asking for her business card, giving her their business card and asking if they could email her with questions.  I stood to the side witnessing all of this and thought that we as parents always pray for the best for our children.  My prayers have been answered!  I have posted a picture of Courtney and one of her Graduate School friends, Lindsay.  The gentlemen in the photo is Dr. Michael Baden renowned Forensic Pathologist.

Be sure to make a stop at my Shabby Girlfriend's blog to see what they have whipped up for you!  I know you won't be disappointed! :)  Have a great week and thank's for taking a peek!  Cathy xx :)

~A Proud Mother Moment~

I wanted to share this moment with my friends in blogland.....

AAFS 2011 63rd Annual Meeting (American Academy of Forensic Scientists)

"The Academy's annual scientific meeting is held in February at which time over 800 scientific papers, breakfast seminars, workshops, and other special events are presented. The AAFS consists of eleven sections representing a wide range of forensic specialties, and the annual scientific meeting gathers these professionals who present the most current information, research, and updates in this expanding field."

My daughter Courtney's research on Synthetic Cannibis otherwise known as "Spice" or "K2" was accepted by the Academy and she will be speaking on Friday at the Hyatt in front of 100's! Some of the world's renowned Forensic Scientist's such as Dr. Michael Baden and Dr. Henry Lee will also be in attendance and will be speaking as well.  All her hard work and dedication has paid off - fresh out of graduate school and to have this on your resume'.  I will be attending on Friday to witness my daughter in a business suit and all professional as other take in her valuable research and look on with respect.

This is certainly a Proud Mother Moment - someone pass me the Kleenex!   :)

Blessings - PDCC #68

Happy Saturday - I am so happy it is the weekend! Yesterday,I spend the better half of the day with my Grandson.  I picked him up a basket full of goodies for Valentine's Day - one being a cute little book titled "Elmo Loves Hugs".  Although, he is only 13 months old, he loves to bring you a book, his blankie and his pacifier, and will sit on your lap for you to read to him.  He is a blessing! :)

This card was created based off of this week's color challenge at The Play Date Cafe.  I just love these color's - so soft and serene - I just had to play along.  I decided to do things a little differently this time.  One being......make my own flower.  I played around and played around, and finally was happy with the final product.  I also embellished a little differently as well.  I used my Copics to color my natural white twine and to color all the pearls used for my touch of pink.

Cardstock, twine, diecut and handstamped sentiment from PTI, Coredinations Cardstock used for the embossing, burlap for the leaves, decorative centerpiece, paper doily, and misc. crocheted trim.

Off to post my card...........thanks for taking a peek and have a lovely
evening!  Cathy xx :)

Papertrey Ink's Anniversary - Tag Download Challenge and CardsGallery Doily Challenge

Happy Superbowl Sunday!  Just a quick card today for PTI's 4th Anniversary Tag Download Challenge and Cards Gallery Doily Challenge! :)  I have seen quite a few of these little tags thru-out "blog land" today as I was commenting on some of the challenge blogs!  Good luck to everyone! :)

Frequenting Etsy on a daily basis, I have been inspired by all the different uses of doilies.  One in particular is the combination of linen or burlap with a doily accent.  So.......that is where the inspiration of my card came from.

This card measures approximately 4.75x4.75 and is made with PTI's Kraft Cardstock.  I machine stitched the border with a scalloped stitch and inked it with PTI's Fresh Snow Ink.  A doily was placed in the center,  and then a diecut tag and matching piece of burlap.  I then diecut a coordinating piece of DP to match the ribbon because the burlap frays so easily, I thought it would be a neat idea that when it does there was coordinating paper underneath.  A Melissa Frances chipboard star was placed next along Nicole Heady's tag, PTI's Rustic Jute Twine and a PTI's Melon Berry button. and lastly a bow tied with PTI's Melon Berry Swiss Dot ribbon. That's it......easy-peasy.

Off to post my card..........thank you for taking a peek - good luck to all!  Cathy xx :)

Viva la Verve - February Sketch Challenges

Happy Saturday!  It's a beautiful day here in Chicago...bright blue skies and the sun is out!  Oh, did I fail to mention we have approximately 2 feet of snow and about 12 foot on one side of my house?  I am wondering how
long it will take for all of this to melt! :)

I  found a fun new challenge to join in on at Viva laVerve.  It is a monthly challenge, where each week where you are given a sketch to base your design off of.  On February 24th all of your designs must be submitted and then on the 25th they will choose a winner.  Guess what the prize is?  That month's release of all the new stamp sets!  I do not own any of their stamps yet, but I would love to win! :) The sketches are wonderful and the DT is quite inspiring.  Go take a peek! :)

I have posted my first two entries - only two to go!  You have plenty of time to join in on the fun....so head on over and check it out!  Who know's.....you may be a winner!  Thanks for taking a peek - have a super wonderful weekend!  Cathy xx :)

Happy Valentine! - FTTC103

It's two days after the big storm, and the cul-de-sac that we are in was finally plowed out.  I have to say....I don't mind being "snowed-in".  It gave me a chance to play along with some challenges that I wouldn't necessarily be able to fit in! :)

This card was created off of this week's challenge at Flourishes.  The challenge was to create a card with a Valentine theme.  I decided to create something with somewhat non-traditional Valentine colors.  Hope you like it! :)

DP's from Graphic45 and My Mind's Eye, vintage postcard image from Etsy, twine, buttons and rubberstamped vine image from PTI,  paper flower from Michaels, vintage ricrac scrap and paper doily altered with GlimmerMist and decorative pins.

Ticket to Love - CR8FN13

Happy "Hump Day".  It's Wednesday after another history-making blizzard in Chicago and while my DH digs us out, I am sitting here creating away in my nice warm studio. The plow trucks haven't been thru our neighborhood yet, so there is no better place to be than here.  Work was cancelled for all family members and the city is pretty much immobilized.

This card was created off of this week's color challenge at CR8FN.  I love this combination of colors and have actually worked with them before.  So, I was pleasantly surprised to see this week's colors and let out a squeel of joy! :)

DP's used are from scraps of SEI from a few years ago....I love when that happens! :)  Die's, stamps, buttons and cardstock from PTI, twine from Martha Stewart, paper flower from Prima, misc. rhinestone adhesives.

Thanks for taking a peek........off to make my hubby some hot chocolate.  Have a great day!  Cathy  XX :)
